Harmonic CMTS Support Display of IPv6 Addresses Improvements in Codeword Error Reporting. Added support for the Harmonics CMTS. We added DOCSIS 3.1 modems as a category in the device count report for those licensed with our DOCSIS 3.1 module. Added support for IPv6 for dual-stacked operators. There is now support for display and ping of multiple CPE IP addresses (IPv4 & IPv6) on the Modem Diagnostics screen.

We improved the codeword error drill-in on the CMTS screen so modems are associated with all their bonded channels. A CSV report of channel bandwidth has been added. We added the ability to SAVE and PRINT from the Overview screen. New HTML5 Front-end to Replace FlashWe have rolled out a new HTML5 interface incorporating the current features of TruVizion into an HTML5 front-end instead of the original Flash platform. The new front-end application is called CentraVizion, which is where ongoing development for TruVizion will now continue. CentraVizion is a centralized interface that will also house other separately licensed application modules in addition to TruVizion. This was a significant development effort, and one that had to be done. Adobe announced they will be end-of-life with Flash in 2020, and the support for Adobe Flash in web browsers is already being phased out.

Existing TruVizion customers will be migrated to the new CentraVizion front-end over time. Because this is an HTML5 front-end, we were able to design the application with a responsive interface, so the screen and panels automatically adjust for small screen sizes.

The TechVizion app will no longer be needed with TruVizion in the CentraVizion interface. All features in TruVizion will be accessible through the web browser on mobile devices.Note: If you will be regularly using CentraVizion on a mobile device, you can add a shortcut to your home screen so that it can be easily accessed like an app. How to do this will vary depending on the your device and browser (Apple, Android, Microsoft), but it is a very similar process. Open TruVizion in the browser on your mobile device, and look in the browser menu for an option like “Add to home screen” or “Pin to home screen.” You can then name the shortcut, and add it to the home screen of your mobile device.

View Channel Frequency, Width, and ModulationOn the port drill-in screen we have added information about the channel’s Frequency, Width, and Modulation. Simply click on an upstream or downstream port name on a screen, such as on the Modem Diagnostics screen, the CMTS Diagnostics screen, or from the Network Navigator menu. This will take you to the historical charts for that upstream or downstream port. In the upper-right corner of that screen, next to the CMTS and port names, you will now see the channel’s Frequency, Width and Modulation. Change Radio StateAn update to the WiFi options menu in the AP Radios panel now allows you to enable or disable the radio on a device by choosing the “Change Radio State” menu item.WiFi Radio ScanAlso in the AP Radios panel, a “Scan WiFi Radio” option has been added.

Select that option and click the “Scan” button to see information about other access points. This can help you determine if there is potential interference from one or more nearby radios. You can see the SSIDs, the channel the other radios are tuned to, as well as the RSSI (received signal strength indication) and the security mode.Change Transmit PowerTo prevent a modem from broadcasting further than it needs to, for example, in an apartment building, the “Change Wifi Transmit Power” option can be used to modify the transmit power of the device. The transmit power levels can then be set to 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%.MAC Domain Downstream UtilizationWhen you click on the Overview tab in the top menu, you will now see a MAC Domain tab.

This will give you a summary overview of the downstream utilization on your MAC domains, showing the average downstream utilization, as well as the maximum downstream utilization that was seen during a 15 minute period. Modem Status Panel UpdatesThe modem counts next to each channel in the Modem Status panel now represent all modems connected to that channel. Previously, if a modem was connected to more than one channel, TruVizion would only count that modem as being on the primary or first channel seen.

The “Total” row in the table will continue to represent the actual total of physical modems on all channels. This means that the number of modems in the “Total” row may not equal the total number of modems in all other rows, since a single modem may be bonded and connected to multiple channels.A “Partial” field has also been added to the Modem Status panel. This field will display a count of all bonded modems that are online and communicating on at least one upstream channel but that are in a partially impaired state on one or more of the other upstream channels it should be communicating on. If the CMTS does not provide data for a modem with a Partial status, you will see an N/A in that field.Map Display OptionsThe MapQuest option will no longer be provided for the map display because MapQuest is no longer supporting the API that is used for TruVizion. The This latest release removes that choice from the map and from the admin screen. DOCSIS Modem Configuration FileWhen completing a customer file import, you are now able to specify the DOCSIS modem configuration file name.MoCA StatsTruVizion now displays the MoCA interface status for DOCSIS modems in the “Devices” panel on the Modem Diagnostics screen.DSL Outage Heat MapFor those of you using TruVizion for DSL diagnostics, the tool supports a customer-facing Outage Heat Map for your DSL modems that can be placed on your website.

WiFi Drill-in StatsFor gateways that support WiFi diagnostics, a drill-in has been added that charts stats over time from connected client devices. You can view changes in Signal Strength, the Last Data Downlink Rate and Last Data Uplink Rate over the last day, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days; or, you can stream that data live. You can also click the Compare button to compare the stats from up to five other client devices on that SSID.You can also see improvements in handling certain WiFi devices, such as the ARRIS DG2470A.TechVizion WiFi TabIn the TechVizion mobile app, a WiFi tab is available to view the current statistics for your compatible WiFi-embedded devices and connected clients. Power Supply ReportA Power Supply Report has been added that lists any compatible Power Transponders on your network.

It displays battery state, voltage, temperature, and other metrics that TruVizion is able to gather from devices supporting SCTE outside plant transponder MIBs. You will find that new report on the Report tab.Bandwidth Reports UpdateWhen running any of the bandwidth reports in TruVizion, the subscriber’s phone number and email address have been added. You can also find the bandwidth reports on the Reports tab. Watch this short video on the optional Outage Heat Map featureOptional Outage Heat MapWe have also developed an optional Outage Heat Map, which is a customer-facing map you can place on your website that allows subscribers to check and see if there is currently an outage in their service area. The map is automatically updated in real-time from the modem status data collected by TruVizion. If TruVizion detects that there are an unusual number of modems off-line, then we display the area(s) affected on the heat map.

Your customers can drill-in and out of the map, and drag their cursor to other locations within the map the same way they would in other online mapping systems.Implementing the heat map requires your web developer to create a new HTML page or modify an existing page where you would like the heat map to appear. We provide the java script and specific parameters needed to display the map from your TruVizion modem status data. TechVizion Modem Status UpdatesYou can now easily generate a map of online, offline, or attempting modems for any channel on a CMTS within the TechVizion mobile app. This can be useful tool for technicians in the field tracking down modems that may have been impacted by an outage or other network issue.

It will also help them determine when a repair in an area has been successful. To access this feature, tap the CMTS tab and scroll to the Modem Status panel.

Tap the Map button, select Online, Offline or Attempting and select the channel you want to view.Cisco 10K Flap ReportingThis update addresses a known bug in how the Cisco 10K reports flap data. The data will now be collected via CLI rather than SNMP to provide a more accurate flap count.Invalid WiFi RSSIWe are now filtering out invalid WiFi RSSI values reported by some access points.File Import ProcessTruVizion’s file import process has been updated to ignore invalid email address formats.

This will prevent a file import from stopping due to an improperly formatted email address. Spectrum TabAt the top of the modem diagnostics screen, a Spectrum Tab has been added that allows you to view the downstream spectrum (57 MHz-1GHz) passing through any customer device that supports full band capture. This tab also appears in TechVizion.

If the device is compatible with spectrum capture, the Spectrum Tab will be clickable. This is a separately licensed module that you can purchase to enable the feature in TruVizion and TechVizion. This is the same spectrum information you would see in our Remote Spectrum desktop and mobile applications, but there is no need for a separate server-side install or a separate desktop or mobile client. You will see a Play button on the screen to start the spectrum capture.

If you would like to purchase licenses for the spectrum capture feature, please contact your Business Account Manager.Note: You should calibrate the information on the spectrum tab using a meter to make sure the levels are accurate. You can do this by clicking the Calibration button and following the instructions. You only need to calibrate once per CMTS with one of your compatible devices. The best way to calibrate is on a “6-foot plant”.

In other words, use a modem in your headend with a meter hooked up right next to it. Remember that you can see a list of all devices in your plant that support full band capture by running the “Spectrum Capture Modems” report under the Report Tab.Power TabA Power Tab has been added that will bring up a Power Transponder Screen. That screen displays battery information, current voltages, connection to commercial power, and other values for any transponder we detect that supports the SCTE outside plant transponder MIBs. If the transponder is supported, the tab will be clickable. The data shown on the screen is in real-time. We will be adding reporting and alarming for these values in future releases.WiFi QoS ReportTruVizion now has a WiFi QoS report that looks at the performance of in-home WiFi access points embedded in cable gateways in comparison to the subscriber’s broadband package.

This will help you determine if the WiFi performance at the customer premises is significantly less than what the customer should be experiencing over their broadband connection.Inactive Interfaces RemovedTruVizion no longer displays inactive interfaces on cable modems by default on the left side of the modem diagnostics screen. Because of the increase in the number of interfaces on cable gateways the panel was being populated by a lot of devices showing a status of “down” or “inactive”. You can always display all of the devices by clicking a “Show Interactive Interfaces” check box located above the list of interfaces.Spectrum Capture Modems ReportThe Spectrum Capture Modems report now includes the firmware level of the device. MAC Domain ChartsIf you have a DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS, TruVizion now displays the MAC Domains and their associated bonding groups. Click on a compatible CMTS in Network Navigator, and select DOCSIS. You will see a MAC Domains category. When you select one of the MAC Domains, a chart is available showing the total bandwidth usage on that MAC Domain over time, as well as the usage for each channel in the bonding group that makes up that MAC Domain.WiFi Key ResetTruVizion now allows you to reset the pre-shared key for each SSID on devices that support the Arris Router MIB or the CableLabs WiFi MIB.

This feature appears under the WiFi tab on compatible devices, where you will see a “Set Passphrase” button. The change persists even after a device reboot.Full Band Capture Device ReportTruVizion will now show you a list of your devices that support full band capture. Full band capture is a DOCSIS feature that lets a compatible cable modem report the full spectrum (data and video) that is passing through the device.

This feature will let you know which modems in your plant (or STBs with embedded modems) have hardware and firmware that support full band capture.Modem and Node Overview ScreensWe have added a Modem Overview and a Node Overview under the Overview tab. The overview tab is meant to give operators a simple way to find problems across all CMTS. The Modem Overview shows the worst performing modems in various categories across all CMTS. The Node Overview shows the worst performing nodes in various categories across all CMTS. Automatic Reboot of Mismatched QoSWe’ve added the ability to schedule an automatic reboot of devices when the speed provisioned in BCC does not match the configuration of the modem.

The reboot will take place once every 24 hours. To access this feature click on the Admin tab, click CMTS and select Edit. On that screen you will see a setting for Mistmatched QoS Reboot Scheduled Time.

Select “True” if you wish to automatically reboot any modems that have a mismatch in their speed. You can enter the time in HH:MM (24hour format). The default setting is 4:00 AM local time, with local time being the timezone for the CMTS. Note: You will only be able to select “True” to activate this feature if you are using BCC as your provisioning system.Optional Secure URL (TLS)You can now access TruVizion via Transport Layer Security (TLS) by changing the URL to instead of This is currently optional, although in the future we will begin redirecting all non TLS sessions to the encrypted URL. Overview TabIn the informative upper tabs of TruVizion, an Overview tab has been added that makes it easier to identify the most problematic CMTSs on your network. When you click Overview, an overall score for the modem RF readings, modem stability, upstream codeword errors and downstream codeword errors for each CMTS in order of severity will display. This overview will help you keep tabs on the relative health of the different CMTSs in your network and help you determine where you might focus your attention first.

If you click the CMTS name in the report, it will take you to the diagnostics screen for that CMTS.As part of the addition of the Overview to the upper tabs, the Voice and WiFi tabs will now be sub-tabs below the Data tab. When you click the Data tab, you will now see sub-tabs for Modem, Voice and WiFi.

Installation

As before, the Modem Diagnostics tab will open by default, and the Voice and WiFi tabs will only be clickable if there is a compatible device that is reporting those statistics.SNMP String UpdateIn order to provide additional security for your voice devices, TruVizion now has an optional setting to enter a different SNMP string for the EMTA interface than is entered for the modem interface. WiFi DiagnosticsIf you’re using a CableLabs WiFi MIB, we have made a WiFi diagnostics table available in TruVizion. You can see a clickable WiFi tab and WiFi stats for more devices, including SMC, Hitron, and Motorola. Please note that the firmware on the device must also support the CableLabs MIB. For example, most Motorola gateways need to be running version 8.6 or higher to report WiFi data to TruVizion. Also, just a reminder that we added WiFi diagnostics for most Arris home gateway devices back in November.Reset Feature UpdateTruVizion now has the ability to do a forced reset of devices on a Cisco CMTS.

This behaves in a similar way to the CLI command: “Clear Cable Modem xxxx.xxxx.xxxx reset”. This feature is useful when a normal reset does not work because the device is not listening to SNMP. In order for this feature to be enabled, we will need a valid CMTS SNMP write community string. If you would like to enable this feature, please contact your Business Account Manager who will get you in touch with one of our network engineers. We will make this feature available in the future for other CMTS lines that support this capability.Simultaneous Telnet/SSH ConnectionsThere was an issue some operators have experienced with too many simultaneous Telnet or SSH connections.

This should be resolved after the update.Audit Modem ReportTruVizion now has an Audit Modem Report for providers who are using the BCC provisioning system. This report detects a mismatch in the speed that has been provisioned in BCC and the speed the device actually has in its configuration.

This mismatch could be due to a modem that didn’t hear the reboot command when a provisioning change was made, SNMP being disabled because of some issue, or possibly a modem that has been compromised. You will find this report under the Admin tab. In addition, within the report an Admin user can execute a reboot individually or for multiple devices that have an active mismatch in the provisioned speed. You can check a box next to individual modems or select all modems, and there is a Reboot Modems button in the lower-right corner of the report. If you have a Cisco CMTS and you have provided us with a write community string we will execute a forced reset. January’s TruVizion release provides several updates and enhancements that will benefit broadband operators using all supported connecting technologies in TruVizion.

Click the image to the left to watch a video, and read about the updates below.RF Statistics Report UpdatesAvailable on the Report tab in TruVizion, the RF Statistics Report now shows you information about modem flaps and the CMTS port information. December’s TruVizion releases have several updates from which operators will benefit.

Node reporting features have been provided as a means to track further activity on a CMTS. See the full list of updates below.Overall Node Report Addition and EnhancementsAn overall node report has been added to TruVizion and can be viewed by clicking on the Nodes label in the Network Navigator. This report will display all modems on the CMTS, and it will include a column indicating which node a modem is on.

The status column for the modems will also display whether the modem is online, offline, or attempting.Additionally, TruVizion will now be able to discern the node labels and modem associations by discovering those values from the CMTS rather than using any node information you provide. This means that operators that don’t have the node data in their billing system can now provide their node names or descriptions in the interface description field of their CMTS configuration.

If you are already providing node information, we can optionally use the node information from the CMTS instead. In either case, you will need to let your Business Account Manager know that you would like TruVizion to display the node info directly from the CMTS./fusionimageframeAddress Updates in ReportsFor TruVizion reports that include a street address the report being ran will now sort first by the street name, and then by the numerical value in the address. This update will allow you to view all customers on a particular street grouped together by street name.Administrator Provisioning Override FeatureThose having administrator level access to TruVizion will have the ability to provide an override value for the package and speed displayed in TruVizion if the value is being provided from Incognito’s BCC provisioning system. For example, if a package is set in BCC for 20 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, the administrator can change that package to display within TruVizion as 15 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up.

This override value does not change the actual package. It only changes what the TruVizion user sees in the Communications panel on the TruVizion Modem Diagnostics screen. TruVizion’s November release starts to incorporate WiFi options into the software as many users are increasingly moving to using WiFi at their locations. Read more to find out about additional enhancements that have been added this month.Addition of Wi-Fi TabA new W-Fi tab has been added that will show devices that are connected to an Access Point embedded in your home gateways.
